Elizabeth Mansfield joins the faculty of the College of Arts and Architecture as head of art history. Her research focuses on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European art and art historiography. Her publications include the books The Perfect Foil: François-André Vincent and the Revolution in French Painting and Too Beautiful to Picture: Zeuxis, Myth, and Mimesis, the edited volumes Art History and Its Institutions and Making Art History, and the current edition of the textbook History of Modern Art. She completed her PhD in Fine Arts at Harvard University. Past positions include academic appointments at New York University and at Sewanee: The University of the South; more recently, she has served as Senior Program Officer at the Getty Foundation and Vice President for Scholarly Programs at the National Humanities Center.
